("In a Class of Only One: Ruby Bridges")
The Ruby Bridges Foundation
In 1999, Ruby Bridges created the "Ruby Bridges Foundation" to help end the fight of racism. The Ruby Bridges Foundation was established in New Orleans in 1999. The foundation's purpose is to promote respect and equal treatment to all races or all differences. "The foundation's primary initiative is to create a school in the William Frantz Elementary building that will serve as a model for integration and equity in education. It will create a learning environment that brings children together so that they can do what previous generations have not been able to do: embrace our racial and cultural differences so that we can move forward." The foundation's purpose was based around one moment when Ruby Bridges crossed the barrier of segregation and changed education. Not only did she desegregate education, she changed society. Instead of different schools, we are together as one big family with the help of Ruby Bridges ("Ruby Bridges Foundation", 2015).
